About Me
Sunay
Who is Sunay?
Sunay was born as the fifth child in a large family in a small town in Eastern Anatolia. She completed her education at Ankara University Faculty of Law and practised as a freelance lawyer for long years. During this time, she began writing short stories inspired by her life experiences and observations of human nature.
In a surprising turn of events, she moved to Brussels in 2010. Here, her interest in storytelling through the art of cinema grew significantly. After encountering Indian enlightened saints and sages, she played an active role in translating and editing two seminal works into Turkish: The Law of Karma and Freedom from Fear.
Later, she pursued screenwriting training under Selçuk Akman, during which she authored several short screenplays, including Nettle Field (crime), Astral Heaven (comedy), E-Katerina ( comedy), White Cliffs (drama), and an independent piece titled Dream. Her first feature-length film project, Blue Gate, was meticulously developed over two years in Selçuk Akman’s project workshop.
This extraordinary and compelling work garnered the admiration of Karl French, a distinguished editor, film critic, and columnist for renowned publications such as The Guardian, Financial Times, The Observer, Esquire, and Hotdog Magazine. He edited the screenplay with great care.
In pursuit of bringing her creative visions to life, Sunay enrolled in the Directing Diploma Programme at Raindance Film School. During her studies, she collaborated with award-winning directors such as Alexis Van Stratum, Jérôme le Maire, and Jean-François Metz, and was mentored by prominent figures of European cinema, including Sophie Perié, Laurent Denis, Gwennaëlle Libert, and Claire Battistoni.
Sunay continues her cinematic journey with a distinctive and authentic perspective.
